Gifts of Libraries

“What is more important in a library than anything else - than everything else - is the fact that it exists. ” ~ Archibald MacLeish, "The Premise of Meaning," American Scholar, 5 June 1972

Our History

Prescott Valley Public Library Foundation, Inc.

The Prescott Valley Public Library Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in 2003, as established by the Town of Prescott Valley Public Library Board of Trustees. Its mission:

To support development of outstanding library services now and in the future through fundraising and outreach to the community.

The Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, EIN 51-0605589. Its bylaws govern the operation of the Foundation and its Board of Trustees.

Its sole purpose is to raise funds to benefit the Town of Prescott Valley Public Library. Those funds may not be used to fund general maintenance or operations that would normally be provided through the budget of the Town of Prescott Valley. The bylaws define officers, designation of funds and methods of investment. No salaries are paid to the Foundation Board members and are prohibited by the bylaws.

After the Foundation was incorporated, the original Board consisted primarily of the Public Library Board of Trustees and did not meet on a regular basis, remaining inactive for several years. However, in 2006, the Foundation’s President, Tracy Foundas, made significant strides toward re-activating the Foundation. She recruited new members to the Board, the bylaws were revised and the 501 (c)(3)tax exemption was secured.

At about the same time, the Town of Prescott Valley entered into a construction plan for a new public library building. The Foundation was approached by the Town Council to assist with raising funds to provide for the library collection and furnishings. Through the efforts of the Foundation and its President, Ellen Babbitt, and the Prescott Valley Town Council, a funding commitment was secured from Northcentral University. These funds paved the way to an agreement with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the creation of a Virtual Interactive Room in the new library which includes cutting-edge technology in a collaborative learning environment.

Now that the new library is open, the Foundation’s job is far from over. It must actively identify and secure resources as it continues to achieve its mission to raise funds in order to support the development of outstanding library services in Prescott Valley now and in the future.
